AMD vs Intel part Deux


Computer processors or central processing units (CPUs) are what execute programs on computers. A powerful CPU can get more things completed than a slower processor. There is leading CPU manufacturers in today's computer market: AMD & Intel. Both are popular with a massive following so it is a difficult decision to prefer over the other. Some factors that are helpful to think about when comparing the massive brands are cost, performance, life span, & overclocking potential.

* Cost
Cost differences between Intel & AMD are constantly fluctuating so this can only be a reliable factor to think about in case you are actively following computer trends & developments. Every time a brand spanking new CPU know-how is discovered & introduced by either Intel or AMD, the prices of the earlier generation of their processors go down. Cost battles between Intel & AMD are as much know-how wars on who gets to generate a better & improved CPU first.

* Performance
CPU performance largely depends on the generation of the processor. There was a time when AMD ruled the PC betting niche & offered more value for the dollar. Ever since Intel released the Core Duo processor, however, the company has been offering faster & more stable processors than AMD at affordable rates. Intel is currently king when it comes to high-performance CPUs, with its newest know-how: the Quad Core know-how. AMD still offers high-performance CPUs but they are usually more expensive than their Intel counterparts. This might fine-tune in the near future.

* Life Span
AMD processors usually build up plenty of heat when performing intensive user applications like games & multiple graphics application. Oftentimes, standard cooling features are not to protect AMD processors from damage due to overheating. Intel's Core Duo line of CPUs, on the other hand, show exceptional tolerance to heat even with a standard heat sink & fan. Nevertheless, if overheated, processors from both AMD & Intel can be damaged beyond repair. The life span of a CPU is not such a massive issue since the average computer user usually upgrades his or her computer every or so years.

* Overclocking Potential
Only hardcore game fans & heavy multimedia users can relate with CPU overclocking. Overclocking involves walking the CPU at speeds greater than its specifications. For example, it is feasible to overclock Intel's E6600 from.4GHz to.2GHz. That is a whopping speed increment of 800MHz! Usually speaking, overclocking a CPU can increase overall process performance. For now, plenty of Intel processors have greater overclocking potential than AMD processors.

As mentioned before, you require to keep up with the latest updates from Intel & AMD to get the best processor in the market. The moment either CPU manufacturers release a brand spanking new product, you can expect a massive drop in the prices of the displaced line of CPUs.
