Create A New Directory In Linux OS

Computer users are aware that directories help you keep your files as well as your hard drive organized. Linux operating technique users can have each of their directories attached with their own parameters. The parameters include knowing who has access to the listing, who has the permission to remove it & the permission to make changes in the listing. In case you are not comfortable using Linux & do not think about yourself a pro, you may contact an online computer repair service for assistance.

Start with making a listing

Note that mkdir command used in Linux is of the Bourne-Again Shell or BASH commands. This command is used when a used listing has to be created. Before using this command the Linux user must check which listing he/she is presently active in. This is done for getting rid of errors at a later stage if the users are in a listing where they don't have such command privileges. For checking this, you must use the pwd command & then press the Enter key.

The user must now type at the command prompt mkdir [directory] for making a new listing. In lieu of listing command line operator, the user must type a name for the listing according to his/her preference. For example, when the user is making a listing called work, the user must type mkdir work. Note that this command will make a listing in the present working listing.

Now the user may use the -p command line parameter; this will generate subdirectories in a parent listing. For example, if a user is typing mkdir -p work/trainingprogram/office, he/she would be making a listing tree that includes trainingprogram/office within the listing named work.

For making a new listing in any other listing other than the present working listing, the users must make use of the -p command line parameter in the similar manner of making a listing tree mentioned above. However, in this procedure, the user must include a / before the first directory's name. For example, if the user desires to generate an office listing in a work listing that already is present, he/she must type mkdir -p /work/office.

The Linux user can make lots of directories directly by using the mkdir command only times. This can be fundamentally done by having a space between each of the directories that the user desires to generate.

The users must know that in Linux operating method, a listing can be made in a listing that the user has access to & cannot be created in someone else's domain. When you are using the mkdir command, be cautious about the spellings; if there is a spelling mistake, it will be difficult to locate a folder & also difficult to navigate to the folder later.
