As our virtual lives & actual lives combine in to, they are going to need to protect all of that information so that it doesn't get destroyed, or hacked in to, or perhaps someday used against us. & when I say used against us, I also mean some corporation rummaging through our information with a brilliant computer algorithm to identify us as a specific buyer of their products & services. I'd as soon keep my privacy as long as feasible, although I am coming to the realization that in the future that will be indeed impossible.
Cloud computing appears to be the wave of the future, & I hope that the cloud is not made of CO2, because it would cause us to choke to death. & speaking of death, what happens in the event you have all of your personal information, important relative’s images, & all of your information stored in some information middle or cloud somewhere & the information middle has a cyber assault & they lose everything for you? Personally, not for privacy reasons, but also for safety reasons, I would back up everything I have on a DVD or several of those & put them in to a safe, for safekeeping somewhere.
An fascinating editorial to read might be which appeared in the Wall Street Journal on June 6, 2011 titled "The Cloud Drifts Closer to the Consumer" by Ian Sherr that discussed the issues with users storing their music, videos, pics, etc, in the cloud & not on their own computers or within the hard drives of their devices. Still, I'd ask why? In the event you have a personal tool which can store the information & it not costs many funds for plenty of Gigabytes of information storage, why do you need the cloud at all?
Now then, let's compare this to funds. They put our funds in banks, but right now they don't give us any interest for it, because rates of interest are so low. Then they charge us to make use of our own funds at the ATM, & they charge us to have a bank account, which is either free in the event that they leave plenty of funds in, or an every month fee for the privilege of them holding our funds, & making it more difficult for us to make use of. That doesn't appear like such a great idea.
Likewise, why ought to they pay someone a fee for using their cloud information middle, when they can merely buy a 50 GB iPad, laptop computer, or other personal tech tool. The individuals who are promoting cloud computing appear to think they are offering something to the public that they need, but personally I don't need it, & I don't understand why I would permit my information to be stored on someone else's computers, cloud, or in their information middle.
Most small businesses agree & that information about their business is private, it is not for someone else to see including the IRS which could fundamentally subpoena that information from the cloud computing seller, who else will need to go snooping? Indeed I hope you will think about all this & think on it.
