Do you need to change the hard drive partition style in Windows 7 operating method but don't know how to do it? You are not a tech geek & thinking to consult a remote tech support provider to help you out? If the answer is yes, this editorial is for you. Here you will find ways to change partition style in Windows 7.

The Master boot record (MBR) file method format is used by Microsoft Windows 7-based computers having a hard disk size of less than terabytes. In MBR the files are stored in a standard BIOS partition table. If your computer is having a hard drive with over terabytes knowledge capacity, then the MBR format won't work.

For the larger hard drives, the GUID partition table (GPT) is used. It makes use of the unified extensible firmware interface (UEFI) method in order to store files. In Windows 7 operating method, you have options to change the partition style of a hard disk. You can do it from MBR to GPT & vice versa.

Before you start, don't forget to backup all of your knowledge. This is because changing the partition style will erase all the contents on the hard disk. You can use a CD, DVD or an outside hard drive to back up your existing knowledge.

times your backup is taken, click the "Start" button on the taskbar & type "cmd" in the Search box & then hit "Enter." Type "diskpart" at the command prompt & again hit "Enter." Now type the "list disk" command at the "DISKPART" command prompt & then again press "Enter." All the hard disks connected to your PC will now be displayed. You will notice each hard disk has a matchless number assigned to it like 0,1,2 & so on.

Now you need to type "select disk disknumber" at the "DISKPART" prompt. Then press "Enter." You need to replace the disk number of the hard disk of which the partition style you would like to change. At the "DISKPART" prompt type "clean" & then press "Enter." All the partitions on the particular disk will now be deleted. Now type "convert gpt" at the "DISKPART" prompt. This is for converting a hard disk from MBR format to GPR. In the event you need the reverse thing, then type "convert mbr". This will convert a hard disk from GPR to MBR. After typing the command press "Enter."
